Our Progress

- We will be organizing the workshop “Speech AI for All: Promoting Accessibility, Fairness, Inclusivity, and Equity” at CHI 2025 in Yokohama, Japan! We are grateful for the support from a wide range of academic and industry co-organizers including Kimi V. Wenzel (CMU), Alisha Pradhan (New Jersey Institute of Technology), Raja Kushalnagar (Gallaudet University), Colin Lea (Apple Inc.), Allison Koenecke (Cornell University), Christian Vogler (Gallaudet University), Mark Hasegawa-Johnson (UIUC), Norman Makoto Su (UC Santa Cruz), and Nan Bernstein Ratner (University of Maryland, College Park). We will share more details about the workshop soon and invite interested researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and community members to join us in the very first CHI Workshop on Speech AI accessibility and fairness.
- Shaomei was invited by Professor Channarong Intahchomphoo to give a virtual guest lecture on “Fair and Inclusive Speech AI for Stuttering” at DTO 5310 – Ethics for Design, AI and Robotics at University of Ottawa, Canada. The students had a great discussion around AI accessibility and corporate responsibilities afterwards. See the slides for the lecture here.
